A new version of the internal web directory known as Connections (connections.harvard.edu) will be released on the evening of March 25. The Identity and Access Management Program decided to update this application to make it easier to use, particularly on mobile devices. We wrote our own application in order to decommission an IBM product and save costs. We also decided to drop some of the social features such as 'invite other colleagues to be in a network' because they are rarely used, presumably due to the overlap with commercial social applications like LinkedIn. The initial release will not have the tags visible, but we are converting all data that users entered and we could bring back the tags in a future release if there is strong enough interest.
