ESTR Scheduled Upgrades 2016-2017

The IRB team just completed ESTR updates as part of a comprehensive June upgrade. Over the next 12 months, ESTR enhancement releases and upgrades are scheduled to occur after regular business hours (Eastern Time) in December 2016 and June 2017. These releases generally include vendor-provided updates, along with enhancements requested by the IRB community and bug fixes. Over the year, some minor configuration updates may also occur.

Electronic Submission Tracking and Reporting (ESTR)* - Recording Ancillary Review

Any department or individual providing an ancillary review to the IRB is now encouraged to use ESTR to record these decisions. There are many types of Ancillary reviews (such as faculty sponsor, department reviewer, IT Security, financial conflict of interest disclosure, etc) and some are required by Harvard policy. Using ESTR to record ancillary review also allows reviewers to provide feedback, approval, and/or attach documentation on a submission in parallel with the IRB review.

ESTR will be unavailable Friday, October 16 at noon through Monday, October 19 at 6AM to complete upgrades. IRB submissions will not be accessible during this downtime. ESTR will be upgraded in mid-October. Changes are a part of the University’s efforts to align the current version of ESTR with the Click® IRB product. Through this initiative, ESTR will remain customized to Harvard’s needs and will provide the benefit of sustainable long-term and robust support. The upgrade will also ensure that the IRB remains compliant with our accreditors and that all ESTR users benefit from a vendor-supported and hosted system. The upgrade will affect the entire, University-wide ESTR system.
