DMS Cloud Migration Project Update

August 16, 2018

The Harvard Data Warehouse is migrating to Amazon Web Services (otherwise known as AWS or the Cloud) and is on track for cutover to production to be completed by the end of September 2018.

As part of this effort, we have asked our impacted stakeholders to validate and transition from the On Premises databases to AWS. Participation in the testing cycles is critical to ensure that there will be no service interruptions after the migration. Systems-to-systems testing and validation is currently in progress, and we will soon be engaging with Direct Database Users (DDUs) across the University. DMS is establishing local “office hours” to support DDUs as they update their connections to AWS databases.  Please watch out for our targeted communications coming in mid-September.

DMS Cloud Migration Project

June 14, 2018

The Harvard Data Warehouse will be migrating to Amazon Web Services (otherwise known as AWS or the Cloud) during the month of September 2018. In preparation for this migration, the APT5 Cloud Migration team has been working furiously: prototyping a gateway to access the databases, developing a disaster recovery plan, and preparing for production readiness.

Over the upcoming summer months, Data Management Services (DMS) will be reaching out to impacted stakeholders with the testing schedule and asking them to participate in our testing cycles. Participation in the testing cycles is critical to ensure that there will be no service interruptions after the migration. DMS appreciates your help with this process.

DMS Cloud Migration Project

February 15, 2018

As many of you are aware, The Harvard Cloud Program is a critical initiative for HUIT in FY18 and beyond. An important component of this initiative is the DMS Cloud Migration project.  This project is well underway and includes the migration of HUIT DMS applications and platforms such as the Harvard Data Warehouse, and Oracle BI, and Informatica.

It is our hope to maintain and perhaps, in some cases, improve service levels as a part of this migration. In order to achieve this, we will be reaching out to impacted stakeholders throughout Harvard University that leverage these systems to ensure they are aware of the DMS Cloud Migration project, its change impacts, and how they can assist to ensure a successful migration; i.e. testing their connections to our migrated applications.
