Ad Hoc Reporting Project Update

May 16, 2019

The Ad Hoc Reporting Project (ARP)’s mission is to implement a modernized ad-hoc reporting software solution (Tableau) and support the migration from Brio to the new platform. Our number one guiding principle for this project is to advance HUIT’s vision of empowering the Harvard community through technology that enables effortless access to data, information and knowledge.  Data Management Services (DMS) will implement Tableau as the Ad Hoc Reporting tool during FY20, and we anticipate that teams of Brio users will migrate over to the new platform during FY20 and FY21.

Currently, DMS is actively working with Tableau to:

  • Identify consulting partners to assist Brio/IR users converting their queries to Tableau
    and
  • Identify training tracks for the Ad Hoc community
  • Provide monthly informational sessions for the Brio / IR users called Tableau DaysTableau Days

The Tableau Days are information sessions to help the current Brio / IR users become more familiar with the features and functionality available within Tableau.  DMS held its first Tableau Day on Thursday, April 25th.  Topics may vary from month to month, with the first Tableau Day’s topics including:

  • Tableau overview
  • Use cases from Harvard and other universities
  • Resources for learning and mastering Tableau
  • Tableau Prep Demo
  • Doctor Sessions – Tableau experts provide guidance and help for Brio/IR users regarding their questions

If you have topics that you would like to see covered in future Tableau Days, simply email Patty Hatch or Alison Wellman Smith.

The next Tableau Day will be held on XXXX.  Please register on the Harvard Training Portal to attend the session.

We will provide more information about these items and the project in the coming months.  For more information about the Ad Hoc Reporting Project, please check out the ARP wiki page.
