Ad Hoc Reporting Project Update

May 14, 2020

After a comprehensive assessment of Oracle Analytics Server (OAS), the project team is happy to share the exciting news that the ARP Executive Committee has approved the recommendation to implement OAS to serve the needs of the ad hoc reporting community. This decision means that HUIT will be implementing and providing support for OAS instead of Tableau. The project team shared the results of the comprehensive technology assessment and presented this recommendation to the Executive Committee.

This decision was made because OAS will:

  • Provide a flexible and complete solution to meet the ad hoc reporting requirements of the community including dashboards, visualizations and highly formatted printable reports that can be scheduled and distributed.
  • Enable substantial cost savings opportunities. Since Harvard is already licensed for OBI, the University will be able to upgrade to OAS without additional licensing costs. In addition, there is also the opportunity to consolidate Harvard’s OBI offerings on to a single platform.
  • Facilitate an expansion of the reporting platform to support broader needs of the university.
  • Offer a single portal for all reporting needs.  This reduces both administrative overhead and the need for end users to navigate to multiple points of entry for their reporting needs.

Considering the expansion of the reporting platform, project leadership will be revisiting the governance structure to ensure success of the project. The project team will now move ahead with implementation plans including a comprehensive training program for ad hoc users in all the OAS tools, resume consultation with the schools on the best approach to BRIO conversion, and upgrade to OAS. The project team will continue to work with local implementation managers to plan training and BRIO conversion activities for the community.
