HUBS Release 3.8 is coming December 6th, includes workday outages

November 17, 2016

Release 3.8 is a maintenance release which includes an operating system upgrade and the latest system patches and updates. HUBS, which includes Smart View, will be unavailable all day on Thursday, December 1, until the start of business on Tuesday, December 6, for the installation of the release.  Due to the complex nature of the installation, a buffer has been built into the plan; should HUBS become available sooner than Tuesday morning an email will be sent to users notifying them that HUBS is available for their use.

Smart View users can note that this release increases the maximum number of rows that can be returned in a Smart View query. The current limit is 10K rows but more rows are now possible.  In fact the logic used to calculate the maximum number of rows has changed.  Instead of a row maximum a cell maximum will be used; the number of rows can be more or less depending upon the number of columns in a query.  For example with a 250K cell maximum and two columns of data, the maximum number of rows in a query would be 125K. Based on testing, most applications will be configured with a 250K cell maximum in HUBS.

A new version of Smart View is also available.  It is recommended that users update to the new version of Smart View, however, they can do this update before or after the release on December 6; there is no required cutover date.  The Smart View experience will not change with the new version but it will bring users up to date with the latest version available from the vendor. To learn more about updating Smart View please read the next section.

Getting the New Version of Smart View

The HUBS Team is in the process of communicating with school IT groups regarding the installation of new version of Smart View.  Users may want to check with their IT group to find out how they can get Smart View updated on their computer while noting the following:

  1. The Smart View update can be done before or after December 6.  There is no required cutover date but it is recommended to update when possible.
  2. Users will experience the increase in the maximum number of rows after December 6 with both the current version (11.1.2.5.210) and new version of Smart View (11.1.2.5.600).
  3. The new version of Smart View is compatible with Excel 2013 and 2016.  Currently, it has been tested only with 2013.
  4. Oracle Web ADI users should note that ADI does not require Excel 2010.  Some users may be re-using an ADI worksheet that is compatible with 2010 but they can log into the ADI utility and retrieve a worksheet that is compatible with Excel 2013 and use that sheet going forward.

Release Notes will be available on this page in the HUBS Wiki as the release date nears:  https://wiki.harvard.edu/confluence/display/FSSHUBS/Releases.
