Independent Contract Policy Training - Now Available (Instructor-Led and Web-Based)

The Office of the Controller's Financial Policy and Compliance Team is excited to share that Independent Contract Policy Training is Now Available. The course offerings are available as Web-based as well as an Instructor Led Workshops. Please review course details as well as enrolment instructions below.

Independent Contractor Policy Training - Instructor Led Workshops

Individuals providing a service to Harvard are considered an employee unless they meet certain criteria. In order for Harvard to meet these obligations, Schools and Units must follow the Independent Contractor (IC) Policy. This in-person training gives an overview of the policy as well as the questionnaire and provides guidance and clarification on roles and responsibilities and when and how to classify an individual as an employee or independent contractor.

Expanded training materials have also been created to help hiring departments, Human Resources and Finance Offices property classify and pay these individuals.

  • Audience: HR, hiring departments, supervisors, and department financial preparers and approvers.
  • Dates/Times: January 12, 2021 – 2:00-3:30
  • Dates/Times: January 20, 2021 – 3:00-4:30

New - Web-Based Independent Contract Policy Overview Training

Employees can now take a web-based training giving an overview of the Independent Contractor Policy. The Independent Contractor Policy Overview (University-Wide, Online) gives an overview of the policy as well as the questionnaire and provides guidance and clarification on roles and responsibilities and when and how to classify an individual as an employee or independent contractor.
