Administrative Reporting and Analytics (ARAP) Program Update

December 7, 2020

Please find an update from the Administrative Reporting and Analytics Program, including progress on of their primary goals and a summary of work done this year as well as a look forward to the calendar year ahead.

The ARAP Program continues to make steady progress on its primary goals:

  • Building an Oracle Analytics Server (OAS) platform that will allow us to consolidate and expand BI reporting capabilities.
  • Working with the multiple reporting tools (Answers/Dashboards, Data Visualization, Oracle Analytics [formerly BI] Publisher) in the OAS Toolkit.
  • Housing enterprise reports, such as those in the Harvard Analytics and Reporting Tool (HART), and Student Information Analytics (SIA), as well as self-service reports.
  • Enabling additional tenants outside of the financial and research administration communities to potentially house enterprise-wide and self-service reports.

This month’s update summarizes much of the work we have done this year and looks forward to the calendar year ahead:

  • Much of this year focused on organizing the expanded program.  With the exciting news that the University could take advantage of the full capacities of the highly configurable and robust Oracle Analytics Server, we can combine our administrative enterprise offerings, expand our administrative customer base, and provide modern self-service reporting and data visualization options.
  • Program governance is focusing on the initial program deliverables.  We have also undertaken a business engagement strategy with specific communities, working directly with the finance, research administration, student information analytics and library areas.  We are also working with the Faculty of Arts and Sciences to incorporate access to its administrative data infrastructure for their community.
  • Next year, we will be bringing up the new OAS platform and working on migrating the current Harvard Analytics and Reporting Tool (HART) dashboards and Student Information Analytics (SIA) reports into the platform.  We will also be implementing a training program to introduce the self-service reporting and data visualization tools to our self-service users to replace the legacy BRIO reporting system.

Please visit the ARAP wiki site for more information about the project and please do not hesitate to contact the team at any time with questions you may have.
